Cheating scandal in Bolivia, the federation suspends the championship and the cup
Another scandal tarnishes Bolivian football. In the last few hours, the suspension of all football competitions in the Andean country has been made official, and the reason for this has been match-fixing, with the aim of placing them in sports betting and financial gain.
In a press conference, the Bolivian Football Federation announced the cancellation of the country's two professional football tournaments, the championship and the cup.
A decision motivated by allegations of match-fixing and corruption. According to the press statement, the meeting ended with 14 votes in favor, 2 votes against and one abstention from the Higher Committee for the development of professional competitions at the Bolivian Federation.

Earlier, the president of the Federation, Fernando Costa, denounced the presence of a criminal organization in Bolivian football and submitted an official report to the prosecutor's office, with the charge of serious fraud and criminal association. Players, current and former managers, as well as judges have ended up in this corruption network.

At the press conference, plans were also announced to create a new tournament from October to December to determine the champion and runners-up for the 2024 international competition. However, the feasibility of the proposal and the suspension of ongoing competitions will be subject to of CONMEBOL, whether or not it will receive approval from the most important football institution in South America.
Local media have published audio recordings demonstrating attempts to fix a match, as the Federation has announced the dissolution of the referees' commission.
